Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about joining the M³ community.

About M³
Why M³?

Because talent is everywhere, but access to guidance, opportunity, and meaningful professional relationships is not. M³ exists to bridge that gap by connecting people with mentors who help them grow, while building a community where mentors, mentees, educators, employers, and partners all learn from one another.

Is M³ free to join?

Yes, participation is completely free for both mentors and mentees. Our mission is to expand access to mentorship, regardless of financial circumstances.

Who can participate?

M³ welcomes:

  • High school students
  • College students
  • Early and mid-career professionals
  • Career changers
  • Experienced professionals interested in mentoring
Where is M³ located?

M³ is based in California, but mentorship is available virtually, allowing mentors and mentees to connect from across the world. As our community grows, we hope to offer more local, in-person opportunities.

Is M³ only for certain industries?

No, we welcome participants from all industries and career paths, including healthcare, biotechnology, technology, engineering, finance, education, business, social impact, entrepreneurship, creative fields, legal, consulting, marketing, manufacturing, and more.

Mentor Matching
How long does matching take?

Applications are reviewed within 5-7 business days. Matching typically takes an additional 1-2 weeks depending on mentor availability and finding the best fit.

How are mentors matched?

Every application is reviewed personally, and we consider:

  • Career goals
  • Industry interests
  • Professional experience
  • Communication preferences
  • Geographic location (when applicable)
  • Availability

Our goal is to create meaningful relationships, not simply make introductions.

What if my mentor isn't the right fit?

We understand that not every match develops as expected. If needed, we'll work with you to understand your concerns and determine whether a new mentor would better support your goals.

Can I request a mentor from a specific company or industry?

You may indicate your preferences in your application. While we can't guarantee a specific mentor or employer, we do our best to align mentors with your interests and career aspirations.

The Program
How long does the mentorship last?

The core M³ mentorship experience is a structured 90-day journey designed to build meaningful relationships, establish goals, and create lasting impact. Many mentorship relationships continue beyond the formal program if both participants choose.

How often do mentors and mentees meet?

We recommend:

  • Twice per month (preferred)
  • At least once per month (minimum)
  • Most meetings last between 30 and 60 minutes.
Are meetings virtual or in person?

Both options are available, so pairs may meet virtually, in person, or hybrid. We'll match participants based on location and preferences whenever possible.

What will we talk about?

Every mentorship is unique, but common topics include:

  • Career exploration
  • Professional development
  • Leadership
  • Resume reviews
  • Interview preparation
  • Networking
  • Career transitions
  • Goal setting
  • Work-life balance
Mentors
Who can become a mentor?

Mentors should have:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience (college students mentoring high school students are also welcome)
  • A willingness to share knowledge and guidance
  • A commitment to supporting others with professionalism and respect
How much time does mentoring require?

Most mentors dedicate:

  • 1-2 meetings per month
  • 30-60 minutes per meeting

The time commitment is intentionally designed to fit busy professional schedules.

What's in it for mentors?

Mentoring is a two-way experience, and mentors often:

  • Expand their professional networks
  • Develop leadership and coaching skills
  • Gain fresh perspectives from emerging talent
  • Build meaningful relationships
  • Make a lasting impact on someone's career journey
Can I mentor more than one person?

Absolutely, many mentors choose to support multiple mentees over time, depending on their availability.

Applications
Can I be both a mentor and a mentee?

Yes, many members of our community both receive mentorship and give back by mentoring others. If you'd like to do both, simply submit separate applications.

Do I need professional experience to be a mentee?

No, we serve high school students, college students, and professionals. Any stage is welcome, so just apply and share where you are.

What if I'm not sure what career I want?

That's perfectly okay, since one of the goals of mentorship is to help you explore possibilities, clarify your interests, and build confidence in your next steps.

What if I don't have a LinkedIn profile?

Applications ask for a LinkedIn profile so we can understand your background and make stronger matches. If you don't have one yet, creating a free profile at linkedin.com only takes a few minutes, and your mentor can help you polish it.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Yes, we respect your privacy and only use your information to administer the mentorship program and facilitate appropriate mentor matches.
